Ross Schunk’s goal in the 2nd minute was all the home side needed as the Rapids' reserve squad earned a 1-0 victory over the Real Colorado Foxes Wednesday afternoon at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The mix of Rapids regulars and guest players fought through the intense heat of the day battling a determined Real Colorado club that had been handed a 5-1 loss in this match-up just a month prior.
Preston Burpo, Rob Valentino, Greg Dalby and Ross Schunk were joined by new center back Julien Baudet, who played his first 90 minutes of match action in a Rapids kit.
Guest players included Greg Packer, Richie Kotschau, Eric Denton, Clayton Zelin and Brad Stisser, along with some Real Colorado fill-ins throughout the match.
The Foxes' best opportunity of the afternoon came in the 61st minute when Byron Cephers ran onto a ball played behind the Rapids backline, creating a one-on-one with Burpo, but it was not meant to be, as his shot sailed wide left.
The Rapids return to the training pitch tomorrow for two more days of preparation before hosting FC Dallas this Saturday at 7:30 pm.
