Cummings Leads Jamaica to Win Over El Salvador

Rapids striker Omar Cummings had the gamewinner in Jamaica's 1-0 victory over El Salvador in the Gold Cup yesterday.

Cummings scored with a flick of his right foot in the 70th minute to lead Jamaica to victory over El Salvador to keep alive their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The result left Jamaica third in their group with three points ahead of El Salvador, who were eliminated. Jamaica will now have to wait for the results of the other two groups Saturday and Sunday to see if they advance.

It was a much-needed win for Jamaica, who had lost their first 2 matches of the tournament.

"For us to come here and not score goals is a tragedy with the talent that Jamaica has and the pace that we're playing," Cummings said.

"We were creating so many chances. The tournament was just one of those off tournamnets. The goals weren't going in and we were playing OK. Hopefully we can play another game and get more goals."
