Rapids 4thFest Adds Local Colorado Act
The Rapids have a tradition of holding blow-out celebrations in conjunction with the club's annual 4th of July game and extravaganza every year.
In addition to the club's traditional thrilling games on the pitch, and the state's biggest and best fireworks show every Independence Day, the Rapids Game Entertainment department has also tied in musical acts to the festivities every year.
Notable acts over the years the Rapids have worked with include everyone from Brethren Fast to Matthew Moon to Blues Traveler to last year's featured band, Opie Gone Bad.
The Rapids have finalized negotiations with this year's post-game performers, who will play in the stadium before the fireworks, and they will be a well-known name for native Coloradans.......especially those from the Boulder area.
The club will reunite for this one-time performance a legendary band who cut their teeth in the Boulder music scene: The Samples.
You heard it here first: the band will reunite at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on July 4 inside the stadium after the game for the first time since they broke up; their last performace was New Year's Eve 2007.
Look for an official announcement in the coming days!

Fans To Vote For Rapids Man Of The Match With Chance To Meet Winner On-The-Field After The Game
The Colorado Rapids and Txtstation announced today their plans for the AT&T Rapids Man of the Match feature for the remainder of the 2009 Major League Soccer season. The promotion, in partnership with AT&T, will allow fans at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to vote on who they believe should be the Man of the Match.
Starting at the 75th minute fans will be asked to decide between three of the game’s top players. To vote, fans must take out their mobile phones and send a text message to 88222. Upon conclusion of the voting, the player with the most votes receives the Man of the Match honor. Of those fans that voted, one lucky participant will be randomly chosen to go on the field after the game and meet the game’s Man of the Match. The promotion will run at all remaining Rapids home games.
“We are constantly looking at ways to better our fan experience here at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park,” said Rapids Managing Director Jeff Plush. “Through our partnership with AT&T, we wanted to offer our fans a voice by providing an interactive voting experience and Txtstation allowed us to do exactly that.”
“We believe sponsor activation and fan interaction go hand in hand. The AT&T Rapids Man of the Match is a perfect example of how to engage fans and allow them to have a say in a given outcome. We are off to a great start thus far and we could not be more pleased to be working with the Colorado Rapids,” said Michael Falato, Vice President of Sales and Business Development for Txtstation.

2009 Rapids Official Team Posters
The club has taken the official 2009 Rapids Team Photo. For the first time in recent memory, it wasn't snowing or otherwise freezing during the shoot, meaning:
1) there was no frost on the field, which resulted in the club not having to wait until the sun melted it to be able to put down benches on the grass.
2) there was no uncomfortable sticking of the back of players' legs to the metal benches.
Therefore, it was a pleasant team photo shoot this year, with the team in reasonably good humor for the duration; always a bonus for the director and photographer.
Fans will be able to get their hands on the official 2009 Team Poster, which features the photo on a thick-stock poster, making it great for getting autographs, starting at the Rapids home game next Saturday, May 23.
Members of the Rapids Academy will be selling the team posters at all gates of the stadium at all games this season, starting with next Saturday. The posters are free with a $5.00 donation to the Rapids Academy.
Bring $5 with you to get yours before they sell out! Get a great memento and help support the youth programs of the Rapids Academy; you know you won't be able to say no to their cute smiling faces anyway.

The Inside Scoop on Rob Valentino
Yesterday we executed a trade that sent Nico Colaluca to NE for defender Rob Valentino. We want to wish Nico the best of luck at his new team and thank him for his contribution to our organization.
Here's a quick scouting report on Rob Valentino exclusively for you guys:
Rob will be a great addition to our already-talented group of defenders. I have personally known of Rob's talent since he was 17 years old playing with the Sereno Soccer Club in Arizona. He played on the same team growing up as Robbie Findley at RSL and Brandon MacDonald at San Jose. He went on to be Defender of the Year in the WCC twice while at USF and was in my mind one of the top central defenders in the country after his Junior season.
He has International experience with our Olympic Team and was under serious consideration for that group until he tore his ACL prior to his senior season at USF. We believe that Rob has tremendous upside and versatility. His best spot is as a central defender, but can also play as a right back.
He certainly has all the qualities to be a impact player in this league. He is big, strong, athletic and has good feet. His size makes him a dominant player in the air on both ends of the field.
The other thing that really impressed us about Rob was through our background check on him, all his coaches described Rob as a great competitor and teammate. This combination made our decision an easy one.
Thanks for taking the time to read; look for more inside information here on our team blog in the future.
